Welcome to Oakland!
Oakland is a thriving California port city with what's been dubbed as the best weather in North America by the ultimate travel authority, Rand McNally. It's also one of the most cosmopolitan places in America – Oaklanders speak more than 150 different languages. From the Chabot Space and Science Center to the Oakland Zoo to fantastic hillside vistas of the San Francisco Bay Area, Oakland boasts many cultural and artistic attractions. Thanks to the city's diversity, you can find a festival, parade, or street affair practically every weekend. Two of the more popular events include the Cinco de Mayo Parade (on May 5th, of course!) and the Montclair Jazz and Wine Festival in early fall. The city's fiercely proud of its athletic teams – in particular, the Oakland A's baseball club and the Oakland Raiders NFL franchise, which both play at the recently refurbished McAfee Coliseum. Although Oakland developed a reputation for being a rough-and-tumble town in the 1990s, a full borne effort to gentrify the urban landscape has borne much fruit, and new residents have recently been pouring into places like West Oakland.
